Develop skills that support a successful future.

Operation Rehabilitation is a creative wellness program that brings expressive arts directly into correctional facilities serving incarcerated Veterans. Through hands-on creative experiences, participants develop healthy coping skills, build confidence, and rediscover purpose
Every Expressive Arts workshop is designed to do more than teach an artistic skill it creates a supportive environment where creativity becomes a tool for connection, confidence, and personal growth. Whether participants are creating a River of Life charcoal drawing, sculpting with pastels using negative space to tell the stories often left untold, or exploring another artistic medium, each workshop is built around a structured, hands-on experience.
Week 1 – Introduction & Creative Exploration
The first workshop focuses on introductions, building trust, and becoming comfortable with the instructor, fellow participants, and the artistic medium. Participants complete a simple free-form project that allows them to explore the materials, ask questions, and build confidence before beginning the featured artwork.
Week 2 – Building the Foundation
The second workshop begins the primary project with guided instruction, focusing on composition, technique, and hands-on skill development. Participants begin transforming their ideas into meaningful works of art while receiving individual support throughout the process.
Week 3 – Completing the Story
The final workshop is dedicated to completing each project, adding finishing touches, and reflecting on the creative journey. Whenever possible, participants are invited to share the story behind their artwork in an optional show-and-tell that encourages connection and celebrates each person's unique perspective.
Some workshops conclude with a dedicated showcase where participants can display their finished artwork, discuss their creative process, and celebrate one another's accomplishments in a supportive environment.
Workshops are typically offered once a week or every other week, allowing participants time to reflect, practice, and continue their creative journey between sessions.

To encourage continued creative expression beyond the classroom, participants may receive donated art supplies related to the workshop they completed. Whether it's charcoal, pastels, sketching materials, or another medium, these take-home supplies help remove barriers and empower participants to continue creativity.
